13 to 15 Mar 08 - TP Offshore Fishing

CR through the eyes of th2x's N73...

Kakis on this trip were th2x & wife(whiskysoda67), zen69, Allelf, Evolution, WRX, Sleeping Beauty, Ferrari, Vincent8235 and king.

A couple of days prior to our trip, it was raining intermittently, morale hit a low as we have to abandon our highly anticipated trip out to Pengibu due to the unforseen weather conditions, we have to make do with a 3D2N trip around TP instead.

Nonetheless, we set out for TP on 13 Mar hoping that the weather will be kind to us when we reach there. From the kelong, the water seems flat enough to set sail even with some wind and rain.

It rained practically the whole of the first day, the water was choppy and rain was falling till after dinner when it finally stop, the fishes caught were some table fares and baitfishes. No notable catches for the first day and night except for 2 snappers, a cobia and a barracuda which was landed by the boatman.

It was only till 2nd day, during day break when a bright red grouper was landed by "king". It was weight in at 4.5kg.The swells were about 1.5m high in the morning and throughout the 2nd day, catches was also mainly table fares with quite a no. of groupers landed by "king". He seems to be the man!

After dinner, the current was strong, I decided to go and get some rest. Woke up at 2am and ready to fish again when "Sleeping Beauty" told someone in the cabin, nothing but "Ah Sengs", i turned around immediately and got another hour of sleep.

Finally crawled out of the cabin around 3am or so and dropped my line. Saw some maggi noodles, deckie was very insistent to give me a bowl, it was as cold as the wind. I just swallowed it to stop the noises from my stomach. Thereafter asked for a ciggy from "Ferrari" who was up all night and we were chatting about the catches. My rod bended before my ciggy was finished and brought up a 5kg cobia.

After which, "zen69" landed a "ang kuey" and "Ferrari" also landed a "ang kuey", it was a mini frenzy, I quickly woke up my wife and Vincent8235 and soon the rest also followed and more lines were dropped. More snappers and "ang kuey" were landed and a whole bunch of grunters were also landed.

As day break, the mini frenzy sort of fizzled out and we were quite reluctant to pack up and go home. The catches were so so to me but the comaradie of my kakis during the windy and choppy trip is something I would remember for a long time.

Till my next trip out to Tanjung Pinang, Cheers! th2x
